Finding My Voice: A Quest Through Voice Acting and Production

I didn’t train for voice acting. I just kept saying yes when people needed a voice — and over time, it became a craft.

It started in 2012, when I was working at Cumulus Broadcasting in Tallahassee, FL as an intern. I voiced and produced local radio ads — the kind that had to grab attention in 30 seconds flat. It was fast-paced, hands-on, and gave me my first sense of how much power a voice could carry when paired with the right message.

After graduating college at FSU in Tallahassee, I landed an opportunity while working with plumbing and HVAC contractors, I started lending my voice to small-scale YouTube ads. These were straightforward, scrappy productions, but they had character — and they needed someone who could deliver clear, trustworthy messaging without sounding like a stiff sales pitch. That’s where I came in.

At the same time, I took on full production of a podcast called The Social Plunge for PlumberSEO.net, focused on educating trade businesses about social media marketing. We cranked out 20 episodes, covering everything from Facebook strategy to — yes — Snapchat (this was during the height of its business hype). I produced, voiced, edited, and mixed the entire series. It was my first real taste of long-form audio storytelling.

Voice Acting in New York City

Fast forward to 2016, and my next voice opportunity came from an entirely different world in the big apple: the brand licensing industry. While working in the Empire State Building at Licensing International, I became the official voice of the Licensing International Excellence Awards, the industry’s biggest annual celebration of innovation, creativity, and impact. For five years (2016–2021), I produced voiceovers that brought to life scripts celebrating global entertainment, fashion, and toy brands — all from the comfort of my studio in Brooklyn.

Freelancing Voice Acting

These days, voice work is still part of what I do — just more selectively. My partner (and wife), Kate, and I take on freelance voice acting and production projects as a creative side-gig. We collaborate on everything from narration to podcast intros, using our combined skills in performance, editing, and sound design with tools such as Logic.

Whether it’s for an industry award show or a niche podcast, we love helping stories come to life through sound.

Let’s Work Together
