Tips From A Former Cast Member: Doing WDW Right

As a former Disney Cast Member with four years of pixie-dusting experience and a native Florida kid, I live and breathe the magic to this day. While Disney World may seem a simple destination to some, it’s part of my life story. From being Grand Marshals in a parade in 2003 to getting engaged in front of the Haunted Mansion nearly 20 years later. Through Stitch & Snare, I’ll be sharing that nostalgic Disney relics and my best advice to ensure your trip is truly enchanted.

Starting off with my tips to surviving Disney World in your 30’s! Now these tips aren’t reserved for those who saw Lion King in Theaters, but anyone who is looking to visit Florida for the first time. If you want to maximize your time, without overexerting yourself (or being the cranky one on a family vacation)

1. Real Talk: Your Shoes Will Make or Break You 👟

Disney World is basically cardio in disguise. With four parks, endless walking, and questionable ride lines (we’re looking at you, Slinky Dog Dash), solid shoes are non-negotiable. My average is between 20,000 – 30,000 steps on a typical park day.

What to bring:

  • Cushioned sneakers or walking shoes with arch support
  • No new shoes—break them in beforehand!
  • Blister bandages + breathable socks

.You can be cute in the group pics and have happy feet. We believe in balance. Bring a backup pair to give your feet a break at the second half of the day

2. Mid-Day Breaks: Not Lazy, Just Strategic 🌴

Your early 20s self might’ve done 12 hours straight in the park. But let’s be real—your 30s self knows better. Schedule a break between 1–4 PM to head back to your hotel, change, nap, or hit the pool with a drink.

Benefits include:

  • Avoiding peak heat and crowds
  • Resetting your social battery
  • Looking fresh for nighttime pics at The Enchanted Rose

Bonus: you’ll be way more hyped for evening rides and shows if you’re not running on fumes and espresso martinis. Don’t forget to eat with that!

3. Stay On Property (Or Seriously Plan Transportation) 🚗

Disney’s All-Star Music Resort

If you’ve never been before, Walt Disney World is huge. Like, its own zip code huge. If you’re staying on property, Disney transportation makes life a breeze. There are buses, boats, and monorails that drop you off near the action.

If staying off-site:

  • Check hotel shuttle schedules ahead of time- some may only run a few times per day
  • Budget time for traffic and security lines
  • Have backup rideshare apps ready (just in case)

If you plan on driving, plan to be at the parks no later than 9 am to avoid all the Orlando traffic. The last thing you want is a 90-minute commute before your first cup of Joffreys.

4. SPF and Hydration Are Non-Negotiables ☀️

The Florida sun is no joke, even when it’s cloudy. And that combo of excitement, walking, and cocktails in EPCOT? Dehydration waiting to happen. Make sure you drink plenty of water and eat!

Don’t Forget:

  • SPF and reapply often!
  • A refillable water bottle (free ice water is available at quick service spots)
  • Bring a Hat or a cooling towel

Group reminder: sunburns or trips to the ER for dehydration are not a cute souvenir, I promise!

⭐️ Bonus Tips for Friend-Group Magic:

  • Make a loose plan but leave room for spontaneous fun. Not everyone needs to ride everything.
  • Split meals or snacks so you can try more without exploding.

Final Thoughts

Disney World in your 30s with your besties? Even better when you’re a kid, because you can buy your own snacks and souvenirs! If you’ve got the budget for a snack crawl, the patience for planning, and the wisdom to pace yourself. Don’t try to fit too much into the schedule all at once, it may seem like a beast (or yeti) but you’ll be planning your next trip down mainstreet before you even leave.

So slather on that sunscreen, hydrate like a champion, and may the force be with you ✨
