A Florida Native’s First Look at Epic Universe: Tips for Your Theme Park Adventure
As a Florida native, it’s rare that an entirely new theme park opens right in our backyard. But this weekend, I’m heading to Epic Universe, and it’s bringing back all the first-time magic I felt as a kid visiting Universal Studios, specifically when I was nearly traumatized by the Jaws ride on a family vacation. At just 7 years old, that trip gave me a few unforgettable core memories!
One of the biggest takeaways from that trip? A deep, lasting love for creatures—fuzzy, scaly, cute, or even terrifying. And from what I’ve seen, Epic Universe is a dream come true for all of us creature lovers. Dragons, beasts, monsters, and… whatever a Shy Guy is—this park seems like a fantasy and sci-fi lover’s paradise. I’m beyond excited to get lost in its five brand-new worlds.
But one thing I won’t lose? My theme park survival strategy. If you’re planning your own adventure at Epic Universe, here are the tried-and-true tips I’ll be following to make it from park open to close:

Pack Smart 🎒
What you bring can make or break your day. Here’s what’s going in my bag to stay comfy, cool, and prepared:
- The right bag: Fanny pack, crossbody, or small backpack—pick whatever keeps your hands free and your back happy.
- Comfy footwear: Supportive shoes are a must, and don’t forget quality socks to avoid blisters.
- Sun + rain protection:
- SPF (apply before and reapply often)
- Compact umbrella or wide-brimmed hat
- Lightweight poncho (Florida storms love a surprise entrance)
- Stay hydrated: A refillable water bottle is essential, and bonus points if it fits in your bag
Pro tip: Lay everything out the night before; no one wants to be scrambling at 7 a.m. for sunscreen.
Prioritize Must-Do Rides🎢
Know your non-negotiables and head there first. If you have early entry, use it wisely! We’re starting with both sides of Stardust Racers—our version of a double espresso.
Plan What to Eat (Not When) 🍽️
Don’t wait until you’re starving to decide! Scope out the food options ahead of time and take advantage of mobile ordering. We’re eyeing the mango bread at the Oak & Star Tavern and cocktails at Celestiki. And remember: Hydration is your best friend in the Florida heat. Refill that bottle every stop!
Take Breaks (Seriously) 🛋️
We plan on watching The Untrainable Dragon show to step into the A/C, and give your feet a breather while still immersed in the Epic worlds. Even a quick sit on a nearby bench can become a magical moment—you never know when you’ll stumble on live entertainment or character encounters.
Follow along as we eat, drink, and ride our way through Epic Universe! I’ll be sharing all the highlights—and probably a creature selfie or two. 🐉✨
