Blooming, Harvesting, and Prepping for Hurricane Season

This May has been a bountiful season for the Stitch & Snare garden! We’ve done a little rearranging, enjoyed some blooming, and even welcomed a new addition. The bougainvillea is starting to flower again, as is the lemon tree, after a year of being dormant. The patio tomato plant has already produced over half a dozen fruits, with even more on the way. We’ve used fresh slices for sandwiches and diced some into baked ziti (yes, I used jar sauce—please don’t come for me!).

Plant Shopping at an Unexpected Place 🛍️

Believe it or not, Costco has been my go-to spot for plants this season! I’ve found the most bountiful tomatoes and the most fragrant jasmine there. On the way to checkout, jasmine in my cart, I was stopped by a woman enchanted by the scent.
“Excuse me—where are those?” she asked.
I pointed her toward the tiny outdoor section, and I’m confident she went home with one or two! I placed the jasmine on the south-facing side of my house, along with the rest of my plants. The tomatoes have been thriving there so far, I had to give it a shot!

Preparing for Hurricane Season ☔️

Thankfully, most of my plants are in pots, which is especially important as today marks the beginning of hurricane season. As Florida natives, we understand the importance of being prepared for Hurricane Season. A strong gust of wind or flying debris could knock something over, and I’m not willing to risk that. If a bad storm heads our way, we’ll move everything into our screened-in porch for safety.

A Tiny Lemon Surprise 🍋

I was hoping to make some lemonade or use a fresh lemon for a recipe, but it looks like I grew one for Barbie! The cutest little lemon practically fell off the tree as I was recording a video of my garden. Shoutout to my guava tree, which I accidentally left out of the video tour—I’m still waiting for fruit from that one!
